First Friday

First Fridays in Las Vegas

The name, "18b" represents the original Arts District area, which consisted of 18 blocks.

15 years ago, I've just had moved to Las Vegas. I was excited about my new city, I wanted to learn more about it,  I was constantly learning about the different residential areas,  the real estate market, looking at the a houses and the Condos near in Las Vegas strip and downtown Las Vegas.

One of those times,   while walking thru some old streets of downtown las Vegas, I found myself heading towards an area known as "The Art District  of Las Vegas"  and suddenly, I was surrounded by a bunch of people that then became a bigger crowd...

I had just crashed into a Local Arty Festival.  A lot  of people were walking and having fun, everywhere you looked at, it was something to look at,  full  with artists featuring their master creations and musicians playing their music, it was a place full of colors and great food.

Later, I learned that  this  Arty  event was better  known as First Friday.

"First Friday is a monthly street festival in the Arts District of Downtown Las Vegas"

Ever since I discovered this venue, I've seen this "First Friday Art Walk",  evolving  and transitioning  into  a big monthly Arts and Cultural Festival venue hosted in the heart of the Las Vegas Art District, drawing up to 30,000 visitors into the neighborhood on the first Friday evening of each month.

This event encourages people to go to downtown Las Vegas to browse, buy, eat, drink and mingle. The event is a festival environment with food trucks all over the place, beverage vendors, music, visual performances and offers, artists of all kinds displaying their works, as well as entertainers of all types, including local bands, fire breathers, acrobats, dancers, fortune tellers and performance artists.

The Las Vegas Arts District, officially known as "18b  Arts District in Downtown" Las Vegas, Nevada was created in 1998 as an 18 block zone set aside to encourage art and artists, the downtown arts district contains an eclectic mix of galleries, one-of-a-kind stores, and restaurants. 18b the Las Vegas Arts District is located immediately south of downtown Las Vegas in an area bounded by Commerce Street, Hoover Avenue, Fourth Street and Las Vegas Boulevard (at Charleston) and Colorado Avenue.

It is an easy bike ride, Walk or Bus ride from Fremont Street.

Today, the Arts District area has grown beyond those original 18 blocks and is a classic urban mix of residential, commercial and cultural uses that will continue to grow as the hub of the arts scene in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas art district and first Friday had become without a doubt a great venue and a platform for local talent and all kinds of artists that  allows  them to showcase their art to the Las Vegas locals, and  allowing the locals  to enjoy the art and get to know their local artists.

The food trucks are always present and you can feel a little overwhelmed by the huge variety and diversity of foods that you can find at first Friday , the food trucks had become also the big attraction of this festival.

I can really say that, ever since I discovered the First Friday Arts Festival,  It has become one of my favorites go to venues in Las Vegas.

First Friday is a free venue, and is open to the public of all  ages

(over 21 for alcohol consumption).

Every first Friday of the month, it's a new opportunity to rediscover the art, the community and the flavors of Las Vegas.

First Friday at the 18b Las Vegas Art District, it's a Las Vegas local's experience!
